Hypocritcal?

After Observing and documenting my own use of technology I am really surprised about my use of technology. When I woke up in the morning the first thing I do is check my phone to see if I have any text messages or emails. After that I noramlly text my girlfriend to wake her up unless she texted me first in the morning. On my way to class I check the socail media, via twitter, facebook and instagram.I get to class with the full intention to be fully engrossed in the lesson. I will be good and listen and pay attention then when I get distracted I normally resort right to my phone to look at it. Once I get a text message I feel like my self consious is telling me to loom at it and I cant just wait a nd be patient to look at it when I get a good oppurtunity. I feel bad alot of times doing it because I do not want to be disrespectful to the instructor. After class I go and try to nap but if I cant fall asleep I always go to my ohine and look at everything to pass the time..I use my phone all day everyday. I realize it but I feel like it doesnt adhere me that much when it probaly does.I need to get better on just putting my phone aside for a little and concentrate at the task at hand. I realize what my problem is now I just have to execute.

Time to be Observant

While walking around campus, being in practice and study hall all day yesterday I realized a lot of things about what students do with their time  and also alot of things I do as well. Walking around campus people are walking to class and most of them have either headphones in listening to music or texting or calling someone of their phones. Their is always going to be people talking face to face but only if they are freinds they rarely stop to communicate face to face with a random stranger. In class I do it myself but students will get bored of the lesson and take quick peaks at their phone to text someone or to go on facebook and twitter. They are so addicted to the feeling of "oh maybe someone messgaed me or I wonder what is happening with my friends today." Rarely are students so engrossed in a lesson that that they forget about their phones.A specific example of this happened yesterday, in study hall. My coach decided to lecture one of my buddies about his phone. My buddy is struggling in english and the teacher doesnt like him. My coach says to him "No wonder your teacher doesntlike you, you so her no respect. You always are on your phone texting or looking at something never focused on her. I caught you today I would look at you and you would act like you were doing work then id turn and you would go back to texting. Students and my self need to be more in tune in what his happening in class and the world around them.

Fearless Teachers

Teachers see the use of technology first hand with its students. I talked to Coach Mac, one of the baseball coaches.Coach Mac graduated with a bachelors degree from Oklahoma Baptist University and also has a Masters degree. Coach Mac is one of the most insightful people I have ever met. I asked him what he thinks about technology in the role of college students? He thinks the role college students should play when it comes to technology is use technology to benefit your self academically first. Make sure that your grades and classes are taking care of, once it is all straight then you can use the Internet for personal use, like facebook and YouTube. When regarding the problems he faces with students and the use of technology he states that students use technology for the wrong reasons and procrastinate a lot due to all the different forms of technology. Mac thinks that technology used the wrong way can really hurt a student and the skills that come along without technology. These skills are focusing on one thing at a time, face to face communication, professionalism. I asked him what he thinks about students not using phones and deleting their social networks? he said students should have their phones to talk to people and family members but when it comes to social media he said delete it unless its absolutely necessary I would like to Thank Mac for his time, and for his honest answers.

What do others think?

Walking around school everyone uses a different form of technology. When talking to multiple friends and students asking them ways they use technology, and if they think its harmful or helpful I got mainly the same responses but my friend Ziggy had the opinion that I thought was cool because it kinda varies mine and differed from mine. Ziggy said that he uses his phone strictly for texting and calling, even though he has a smart phone. He has the capability to access multiple apps that can distract him but he chooses to strictly use is phone for texting and calling. He said he does this because he doesn't want technology to distract him from his goals and from his education. Ziggy uses the Internet to do his homework, research and talk to friends online with twitter, and facebook. He also thinks the uses of to much technology can diminish the face to face relationship between people. I asked Ziggy if he gets distracted easily when doing homework online? He responded "Yes, very easily that why I don't use the apps on my phone. I think the more simple I make everything the easier it is to concentrate on one thing at a time and try not to multitask as much as possible. I look up to Ziggy and the decisions he makes with technology.

Hurting or Helping?

Is technology causing me to lose as much as I gain? That question can be translated and interpreted in many different ways. In my opinion that statement means is the use of technology gonna benefit us in the long run or hurt us? The benefits of technology is that we get to speak and talk to anyone at any point in the day. It could be through text message, email, facebook, twitter, myspace, ball player connect, POF (Plenty of Fish), blogs, or the most obvious with phone calls. A lot of people use technology to catch up with friends who live across the country or just to talk to someone important. With the new advancements in technology schools are even starting to put assignments and classes online, which makes students use technology even more. I do not think the use of technology for academic reason will hurt humans only benefit them because they are learning and looking up stuff to learn about via Internet. The way it can hurt us is if we get distracted easily doing homework or in classes with the Internet or smart phones. The main way technology will harm us is through face to face communication. No one will know how to handle a real conversation. An example of this is going to a job interview and freezing or not knowing how to be professional because you are so used to the phone. Technology does alot of bad for people  but also does wonders. In the long run technology may hurt us but it will also help us more then we will ever know.

Who I am?

Hello Everyone my name is Casey. I am a college baseball player in Yuma. I love playing baseball it is my life and aways has been since I was a little kid. I got the opportunity to play college baseball out of high school, now I am trying to make my opportunity worth while. I love hanging out with my friends, going fishing, listening to music and chasing girls like any male college student. I use technology in my life just about everyday with my phone. Like many people I have a smart phone which allows me to have multiple apps to check my social media and to play games. I use technology to talk to my friends, to keep in touch with people away at college, to do my homework, and to surf the web learning new things. Using Technology as a young college student comes in handy a lot when it comes to homework but also hurts me because I get distracted very easily. My goals here at AWC are to get my degree and make it to the next level baseball wise. This is my blog and I welcome you all to it.
